A trio of North Melbourne youngsters have all penned deals to extend their stay at Arden Street.

Young gun Phoenix Spicer has agreed to a one-year contract extension, which will see him remain a Kangaroo until at least 2023, while rookies Pat Walker and Matt McGuiness have re-signed for an extra year, taking them to the end of 2022.

Spicer was rewarded with a debut in Round 23 against Adelaide earlier this season after consistent form at VFL level, with his future at North Melbourne looking bright.

While the Walker and McGuinness haven't played a senior game yet, North Melbourne GM Bradley Rawlings - speaking to North Media - expressed excitement for their future prospects.

“Pat (Walker) was really starting to hit his stride in the back-end of the season in the VFL and was very close to an opportunity at AFL level.

“He is an elite kick and reads the play really well. We feel with another pre-season under his belt, he will be able to reach new heights next year," he said.

McGuinness has been touted as a player with good footballing smarts, but he has not yet been fortunate enough to string a good run of games together at VFL level after suffering a Lisfranc injury in Round 2.

Speaking to North Media, VFL forwards coach Heath Younie said it's important for McGuiness to get his body right to give himself the best opportunity.

“He had a pretty interrupted season through injury. For him it’s all about getting a clean run at it and the off-season becomes really important for him. He’s versatile and has played a bit of key defence, key forward and ruck, so he just needs a clean run," he said.

The signings of Spicer, Walker and McGuinness come after recent contract extensions from several North Melbourne players, including Aaron Hall, Josh Walker, Aiden Bonar, Will Phillips, Tom Powell, Charlie Lazzaro and Ben McKay.
