Zach Tuohy suggests potential role change

Geelong defender Zach Tuohy could spend greater time up the ground in 2018, believing it will make him a more dangerous weapon.

The 28-year-old averaged a career-high 24.6 touches and 4.9 rebound 50's per game in 2017 after being traded from Carlton.

Tuohy proved a perfect replacement for the retired Corey Enright, recording the third most metres gained in the competition behind Dustin Martin and Nathan Wilson.

The Irishman isn't content with his rise to prominence however, suggesting he has plenty of room for improvement in his game.

"I don't see any reason to suspect that I shouldn't keep progressing," Tuohy said.

"The body's held up OK, which is half the battle in the AFL."

"I'm surrounded by really quality people, coaches who are exceptional coaches but were all phenomenal players, so there's no reason I shouldn't be able to keep tapping into their experiences and, hopefully, take the next step again."

Tuohy spent much of Tuesday's open training session doing body work with his fellow backmen, displaying great strength against all different shapes and sizes of opponent.

The half-backman said that being able to pinch hit as a midfielder or winger would add versatility to both his and the team's game, and was keen for the challenge.

"It would be nice to be able to play a few more positions than I have done in the past," Tuohy said.

"I'll obviously stay at half-back and that's not going to change, but the ability to pinch-hit in a few different positions is a useful one, especially in today's game.

"I'll just keep improving, hopefully my strengths as well."

Stewart Crameri and Lachie Henderson are yet to integrate into the main training sessions as they work back from injuries.

Patrick Dangerfield and Gary Ablett were on light duties throughout the session, whilst Joel Selwood trained indoors.
